Tips to Reduce Flood and Water Damage to Your Home

  1. Make sure your sump pump is working and have a backup in case the primary pump fails
  2. Move valuables to upper floors
  3. Plug basement floor drains
  4. Move snow away from home
  5. Keep water out of window wells
  6. Prepare appliances for flooding by wrapping them in plastic wrap
  7. Turn the electricity off at the breaker box where flooding may happen (but never handle appliances or touch breakers if you are standing in water)
  8. Move any hazardous materials to prevent a bigger mess
  9. Make a plan for your pets in case you must evacuate the premises
